Week from Hell

It's my first week as manager, but there's no time for a honeymoon. On Monday, I got zero sleep the night before, and ran on fumes the whole day. Tuesday was spent almost entirely managing a single project and letting other fires burn. On Wednesday, I had to make five people to work with me until ten o'clock at night to finish said project in crisis. On Thursday, we presented said project to the stakeholders feeling proud of ourselves for finishing on time, and they dismissed our rough work and told us not to show it to them until it was finished (ouch). On Friday, I had to fire someone over the project, a guy I really liked. If I'm not around much this weekend, it's because I'm spending it under the covers.

Does it make sense for me to keep my phone? Work has provided me with a cell phone. I broke my home phone last weekend, and I could buy another one at Target for ten bucks, but I wonder if I should finally kick the $45 monthly bill and stick to either the cell phone or something like Skype (for which I'd have to buy a mic). I don't know why car companies insist on calling their products "vehicles" now. Apparently "cars" became a dirty word and I missed it. But if you're going to change the term, consider your marketing messages carefully: As a matter of fact, yes, I have heard about radar, sonar, and infared technology in vehicles, such as submarines, aircraft carriers, and helicopters.
