Back among some of the first posts I made to this blog I had one called "False Hope" and another called "Another Irritating Thing". Well the same kind of thing has happened numerous more times to Darrell, but in the realm of writing, not music. Darrell and Darrin decided they were going to be writers... They have written a bunch of stories now. A couple of times they got messages saying that a magazine (web-zine, or whatever) would have accepted their story but they can't because they are now closing down. One time they got what was apparently an acceptance notice, and the name of their story was placed on the schedule for publication.. only to find out later that it was placed on the schedule by "mistake" and they weren't going to publish it after all. There were more incidents like this than I can remember. Then just recently, Feb 1st, they received an email saying that their story was accepted to yet another publication. They've been checking the website obsessively. No updates. No further word from the guy who sent the "acceptance" when they wrote back asking when their next issue was coming out. I did some googling and couldn't really find evidence that the editor is even alive. Finally yesterday I found the co-editor's Facebook page, and oddly enough he had a public post just today saying that he is resigning from the magazine because *he* can't get in touch with the editor either! So nobody knows what happened to the guy.

Are Darrell and Darrin causing this stuff with their minds just because they want a publication so badly?
They are really depressed. I don't know what to do. I can't force someone to publish their stuff.

One Reply to supernaturally unlucky

Persistence pays off. Every published author can tell you about a long string of rejections and missed opportunities before they finally got lucky. Hang in there, Darrell and Darrin. Keeping a sense of humor about it could help. That disappearing editor who can't even be reached by his own staff? That really is "supernaturally unlucky." They could turn that experience into a funny story, something like this, if it helps to cheer them up.

I didn't like Brokeback Mountain

I know I'm a number of years too late to be talking about this, but I finally happened to see Brokeback Mountain and I have to say I didn't like it terribly much. Yes, I realize this is an extremely unpopular opinion to the point of being just plain wrong as an objective fact. Note, I do not have a problem with gay people or gay behavior. Go »

Nostalgia from TV shows

We're watching some high school shows lately, notably Freaks and Geeks, which I love, also My So-Called Life which I hesitate to admit I find hard to get into... Anyway Freaks and Geeks sure makes me jealous of the friendships those characters had in high school. Nobody would ever make a show about my high school experience. Go »

New Camera

I didn't realize you could get a digital camera for $15 now... Once I became aware of this fact, I had to have one! Darrin got rid of his camera phone and this will serve the same purpose. Go »

Crawlspace

Darrell just ordered an Atari on ebay. It just felt good to get annoyed with my mom first :) The guys are so excited looking over all the additional Atari games they could buy. I know it's kind of stupid to be buying that kind of thing instead of the hugely complex games that exist now, but Darrell said he wants the crawlspace to be a fun place without the kind of long, complicated game that can cause painful obsessions. TV crushes

I need to apologize for the rather fangirlish reference in my last goo. I was having a little crush on Marcus Cole when I made the goo... that is my justification. Go »

D&D first impressions

So our books came yesterday and I've been reading the Dungeon Master's guide as scheduled while Darrell's been reading the Player's Handbook. It's quite obvious I am going to have to read the Player's Handbook too since there is not so much actual useful information in the DM guide. It has lots of pages about different playing styles, how to handle different personalities in your group, and weird stuff like how to write cryptograms, but not so much useful data on the actual rules.
