Yesterday was my 13th anniversary of dating Kelly. We've been through many ups and downs together, and those downs have to do with why we're not married yet, but I love her as much now as I ever have. Here are 13 things that have been a part my life for less time than we've been dating:

- The Internet.

- My cousin Vanessa, who's now in middle school.

- Paying taxes.

- Manhood. (Get your mind out of the gutter!)

- A high school diploma.

- JonBenet Ramsey, Theodore Kaczynski, Dolly the sheep, and other news figures of 1996.

- Having a brother.

- Voting.

- Sony PlayStation.

- Not living under my parents' roof.

- Chinese buffets.

- Every friend I have, except Lori.

- Knowing what love is.

I really like this list! Certainly puts things in perspective. It definitely is a heartwarming thought that you've been in love with Kelly longer than with Chinese buffets. Is Vanessa the little one we met in Pittsburgh in 2000? (Zippy disk!)

Eschew Obfuscation

For any FIN players wondering where in the hell the game is: I used my little free time over last weekend writing a mini-post – three whopping paragraphs – and at the end of the weekend I just couldn't bear to publish it so short. (The title of this post was the planned title of that post.) I have now rearranged my social so that weekends are more free, and one thing I plan to do with the time is resume writing FIN, starting this weekend by expanding my three paragraphs into more like three pages. Katie

We weren't planning to get another cat until maybe late spring, but a friend had to move in a hurry and find homes for her cats, so we agreed to adopt one. Her name is Katie, and she needs lots of reassurance about her new home. So far, she's mostly doing well, playing with toys and demanding lots of cuddling. Go »

iMenus

I think we just experienced the future of restaurants. I thought that once before, and it turned out to be true, but in that case the trend was years late coming to Sarasota after large cultural centers like New York and Los Angeles. We might be a few years behind on this new trend as well, but I still see it becoming commonplace. Go »

Chatt Story

Kelly and I are home from a brief road trip to Chattanooga. The primary reason for going was the wedding of an old friend of Kelly. The ceremony was beautiful, held on the banks of Fall Creek Falls Lake, with some of the best-written vows I've ever heard, at once personal and profound. Go »
