OK I have what is called closed angles in my eye's which although I have no symptoms is considered a precursor to glaucoma...I've known this for a couple of years and since my maternal grandfather had glaucoma and my father has the same problem with his eyes I've really just been putting off having corrective surgery since I returned from Japan 2 years ago. What this means is that the eye's drains which are behind the iris are not as open as they should be which can lead to increased fluid pressure in the eye and posible damage to the optic nerve, or so they tell me. So last year I saw the eye surgeon and was slated to get laser'd in march. Well my work schedule was busy last year march became may, may became august august became november until finally finally the doc called and said I transfer in march get your ass in here it will only take a few hours...
a few hours...I had more medical cocane in my eyes (it burns before it numbs) than I think I ever considered ingesting when I was a delinquent. when they hold a piece of glass against you eyeball and you can't feel it but your ears itch your mind does weird things....when the zap of the laser makes your teeth itch something just feels wrong. The burn laser is green but the target laser is red...it looks like a space war going on and you have a front row seat. After everything is done the doc hands me a bottle of drops to use for 3 days (I just used the last dose) and says all is good you now have a hole in each iris which will prevent any fluid build up in your eye, have a nice day. Yup all told it took 3 hours and other than the truly foul taste of the drops, Did you know that your eyes drain to your throat via your sinus passages? I didn't. All is good and I still have an excuse to wear sunglasses inside for another couple of days

I miss the piazza
well after 22 hours in transit I have returned from Sardinia to the land of really bad Capoccino. I spent my birthday (Saturday) sitting in the Piazza in La Maddalena drinking Capoccino...there really isn't any comparision to the wonderful sense of relaxation that I felt there. Go »argh
I got a phone call this morning from work (I'm on vacation) wondering if I know that I'm transferring in 2 weeks???? SAY WHAT???? yet again (this is the 3rd time) the Navy is transferring me to another job in the same area. Go »I call him Sushi........
My wife and I have a thing for Amberjack......this is my final sculpture (required anyway) for the semester I shot these before I finished welding the rest of the chain on (5-6 hours today) right now he's covered in salt getting rained on in hope of promoting a patina which I can clear coat. The plan is to add numbers and hang him on the front porch in place of the numbers now there...I'll Go »Under water and leeching
yesterdays rains have lead to a flooded power station, 24 hours of no power, a river that looks like class 6 rapids and me sitting in the parking lot of my local Midas drinking DnD coffee and leeching Wifi trying to find out if I've got school this afternoon.....I hope we have power by tonight I would really like to cook diner instead of take out again. at least for the next 6 weeks I get to visit the doc every Thursday...today was awesome the PA at my Orthopedist is a genius at casting..the cast/splint I received at the hospital was comfortable for all of two days and then after the swelling dropped it was all angles and uncomfortable...getting Go »
